Palestine Today, With Guests: Palestinian Abdelfattah Abusurouri and Israeli Angela Godfrey-Goldstein

British Correspondent, Alan Hart, Talks About Human Rights and the Israel/Palestine Conflict

Alan Hart has been engaged with events in the Middle East and their global consequences and terrifying implications for more than 40 years.

He has worked as a correspondent covering wars and conflict, for ITN’s News At Ten and the BBC’s Panorama programme.

In 1980, Mr. Hart was intimately involved in negotiations, serving as a covert diplomat in conflict resolution, between Arafat and Peres.

He has worked as a researcher and author. His 2nd book explains why it is difficult to impossible for any Israeli prime minister, even a rational, well-motivated one, to make peace on any terms the Palestinians can accept. His latest book: Zionism: The Real Enemy of the Jews.

Mr. Hart has had one on one private conversations with leaders on both both sides of the conflict. With, for example, Golda Meir, Mother Israel, and Yasser Arafat, Father Palestine. From these private conversations, Alan, has heard the truth of what leaders really believed and feared as opposed to what they said in public for propaganda and myth-sustaining purposes.

Alan has long believed that what peacemaking needs above all else is some TRUTH-TELLING, specifically, with regards to the Israel/Palestine conflict, truth telling, with regards to the difference between Zionist mythology and real history, and, the difference between Judaism and Zionism.

Thus, Alan Hart, believes that it is perfectly possible to be passionately anti-Zionist (anti Zionism’s colonial enterprise, that is) without being in any way, shape or form anti-Semitic.

Recently, Mr. Hart gave a speech in Geneva on human rights. That speech can be read here:

Grant Smith is the director of the Washington DC based Institute for Research Middle Eastern policy (IRmep)/ IRmep is an independent nonprofit that studies U.S. policy formulation toward the Middle East. Smith’s research and analysis about trade, law enforcement and opportunity costs have appears in Antiwar.com, the Financial Times of London, Arab News, Kiplinger, Gannet, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, the New York Times, The Minneapolis Star Tribune, The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs and other specialty publications.

Smith is a frequent guest analysis on Voice of America, Radio France Internationale. He has also appeared on the BBC, C-Span, Al Jazeera, CNN and Press TV.

In 2003, Grant launched his Institute for Research Middle East Policy at a policy symposium in the Raburn House Office Building on Capital Hill warning about the grave dangers of adopting a 1996 neoconservative plan for involving the US military more deeply across the Middle East.

Grant was on The Kathleen Wells Show previously, and discussed his book: Divert! Divert details how an American company diverted/smuggled enriched uranium out of the country to Israel.

Grant’s book, Spy Trade: How Israel’s Lobby Undermines America’s Economy, shows that American’s problem is not only Israel and it’s lobby, but perhaps more dangerously blanket immunity from prosecution.

The harmful activities in which the Israel Lobby leaders engage are only possible because of their ability to corrupt US politics at every level of government.

Also, Grant will discuss the 5 dirty tricks that AIPAC uses against Congress:

Michael Long Talks About Civil Rights Architect, Bayard Rustin, and His Book: I Must Resist -- Bayard Rustin's Life in Letters

BAYARD RUSTIN POSTHUMOUSLY AWARDED THE 2013 PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM

Published on the centennial of his birth, and in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the historic March on Washington, here is Bayard Rustin's life story told in his own words.

Bayard Rustin has been called the "lost prophet" of the civil rights movement. A master strategist and tireless activist, he is best remembered as the organizer of the 1963 March on Washington, one of the largest nonviolent protests ever held in the U.S. He brought Gandhi's protest techniques to the American civil rights movement and played a deeply influential role in the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., helping to mold him into an international symbol of nonviolence.

Despite these achievements, Rustin often remained in the background. He was silenced, threatened, arrested, beaten, imprisoned and fired from important leadership positions, largely because he was an openly gay man in a fiercely homophobic era.

Here we have Rustin in his own words in a collection of over 150 of his letters; his correspondents include the major progressives of his day — for example, Eleanor Holmes Norton, A. Philip Randolph, Roy Wilkins, Ella Baker, and of course, Martin Luther King, Jr.

Bayard Rustin's eloquent, impassioned voice, his ability to chart the path "from protest to politics," is both timely and deeply informative. As the Occupy movement ushers America into a pivotal election year, and as politicians and citizens re-assess their goals and strategies, these letters provide direct access to the strategic thinking and tactical planning that led to the successes of one of America's most transformative and historic social movements.

[A note from editor Michael Long: I thank Nancy D. Kates and Bennett Singer, co-producers/directors of Brother Outsider, for my use of material in their excellent documentary about Rustin. I am especially grateful to Question Why Films, co-owned by Kates and Singer, for my use of an interview that Kates conducted with Dr. Robert Ascher. -- ML]
